These practices have shifted from East to West and can be experienced from retreats to workplace sessions to personalized apps.     Global Health and Wellbeing Clinical Lead, British Telecom

    Mr. Greenhalgh is currently Global Health and Wellbeing Clinical Lead at BT (British Telecom) the UK’s leading telecommunications provider. Previously he was head of Employee Assistance at Accenture. He has an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy, is an accredited therapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and is a Fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

    Bruce has developed and delivered programs globally on wellbeing across all levels within multi-nationals including Accenture, BT, HSBC, Microsoft and O2. He has presented on related topics at conferences across Europe, in Asia and the USA. He has delivered to diverse audiences such as psychiatrists, corporate lawyers, wellbeing professionals and educators.

    In and out of work Bruce has a keen interest in Mindfulness which he now teaches and practices in a range of diverse settings such as therapeutically, counselor training, summer schools, retreats, and for small private groups and charities. In corporate settings Bruce has integrated mindfulness training as part of wellness programs and more recently as part of executive training for senior managers. He trained to teach mindfulness on the masters program at Bangor university (wales) and  is certified by the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute created in Google and based in San Francisco.

    Debbie Jeremiah

    Neuro-Focused Learning Professional

    Ms. Jeremiah is a thought leader and speaker at international conferences in the fields of neuro-management, mindfulness and resilience in the workplace, with the emphasis on digital solutions to increase reach and lower costs. She also represents GE in the workplace working party group of the Mindfulness Initiative (the mindfulness advocacy project that produced the ‘UK Mindful Nation Report 2015’) and contributed to the writing of the ‘Building the Case for Mindfulness in the Workplace’ report.

    Prior to this Debbie was a Crotonville Learning Manager within GE’s L&D Center of Expertise, managing the complete life cycle requirements for delivering leadership and professional skills classes to 25,000 GE employees across Northern Europe (2013-15).

    Debbie has an Executive Masters with Distinction in NeuroLeadership from the Institute of NeuroLeadership, having undertaken pilot research within GE, exploring practical ways to improve collective intelligence, trust and engagement through changing the way teams behave in meetings.

    She is a Toastmasters ‘Competent Communicator’ and is certified to deliver a range of GE Leadership Skills classes, including Presentation Skills and Influening Skills and is also a ‘Time to Think’ Thinking Environment® Transforming Meetings facilitator, teaching teams how to run smart meetings; improving thinking, outcomes and engagement.

    Debbie has a BA(Hons) in Business Studies and was a Chartered Accountant for 17 years. Prior to her career change at GE, Debbie had a range of change manager and financial controllership roles, including Ferrari, Johnson & Johnson, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Symantec. She founded Cabin Fever, a luxury niche mountain log cabin travel company and was a volunteer for the youth development charity Raleigh International, helping to lead expeditions in Patagonia and Outer Mongolia.

    Stress and strain will be defined and the critical aspects (e.g., the role of effective stress) of these will be highlighted. Measurement of these in the field will also be presented. In addition, this webinar will touch on the important role that formation pressure – and specifically changes in formation pressure – plays in oilfield geomechanics. The webinar will also touch on the means to predict and measure formation pressures.

    Dr. Richard Plumb

    Principal Consultant, Plumb Geomechanics, LLC

    Dr. Plumb is principal consultant at Plumb Geomechanics, LLC and a visiting scholar at Tufts University. He is a globally recognized geoscientist with over 45 years of geomechanics experience worldwide. Previously he worked 29 years for Schlumberger.  He spent 15 years in research helping to develop the science and borehole measurements used to characterize earth stress and rock mechanical properties.  For the next 14 years he led the geomechanics consulting business and the geomechanics technical domain within Schlumberger.

    His recent work includes: developing geomechanical models supporting planning and drilling exploration wells drilling in tectonically active regions of Iraq and Peru; mentoring Ph.D. students at M.I.T. and Tufts University and providing geomechanics training. His current interests include: understanding how mineral composition and texture affects the rheology of sedimentary rock and factors that govern the contemporary state of stress in sedimentary basins. 

    Dr. Plumb holds a B.A. in Physics and Geology from Wesleyan University, a M.A in Geology from Dartmouth and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Columbia University.  He holds 6 U.S. patents and has over 70 publications in academic and industry journals.  He is an active member of the American Geophysical Union, the Society or Petroleum Engineers, the American Rock Mechanics Association and the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts.

    This three-part webinar series is focused on introducing the basics of geomechanics and geomechanics services to a wide audience - from service approvers (management), to engineers and scientists who might be called upon to support and evaluate the value of geomechanics efforts but who do not have specific training in geomechanics. While presented as a three-part series, the webinars are laid out in a fashion from more general to more technical.

    The first webinar is intended to present a high-level explanation and background on geomechanics for individuals who would both consider the need for geomechanics as well as determine the value for a given application. What geomechanics is (and isn’t) will be presented as well as some history and explanation of what geomechanics technical competence might look like.

    The second and third webinars are focused on specific technical issues surrounding geomechanics: formation stress, formation pressure, formation mechanical properties (and strength) and the influence of geometry. In a fair amount of detail, stress will be explained as well as its implications. Similarly, formation pressure (and the effect of pressure changes during production) will be presented. Then, formation mechanical properties and strength will be discussed, particularly in light of oil and gas operations (e.g., drilling a wellbore or depleting a reservoir). These two webinars will conclude with a presentation of the criticality of geometric issues, such as fault location and orientation and lithological variations, on geomechanics evaluations.

    This presentation will paint a picture of water management’s complex similarities and differences among the basins and how it may impact your operations.

    Water management of unconventional oil and gas continues to evolve rapidly but in different ways in the key basins.  Understanding how  the different factors impacting water management vary across the United States is important to understanding the local dynamics.  There are some universal trends such as more water is being used per well, lower quality water is being used and infrastructure continues to be built out.  There are also key differences among the top regions in the volume of water produced, ability to install impoundments, practicality of water pipelines and availability of disposal.  This presentation will paint a picture of water management’s complex similarities and differences among the basins and how it may impact your operations.

    Michael Dunkel

    Global Technology Leader, Jacobs

    Mr. Dunkel is the upstream water Global Technology Leader for Jacobs.  He works with oil and gas clients on water management.  Mr. Dunkel is the lead investigator for Jacob’s study with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board related to water recycling. He is also a leader of the Groundwater Protection Council report on their produced water re-use that covers the US shale plays.

    Previously, Mr. Dunkel was Director of Sustainable Development for Pioneer Natural Resources.  His team championed efforts to reduce fresh water use, increase water recycling and plan water management.  Mr. Dunkel was co-chair of the Energy Water Initiative, a group of 18 energy companies raising water management standards.

    Michael held positions in engineering management and project management for 18 years at Pioneer, including global projects. Prior to Pioneer, Mr. Dunkel held a variety of engineering roles at Marathon Oil.

When we decide what we want our perfect customers to expect of us, there is no more space for excuses or complaints. We are committing to deliver only what we have chosen to deliver. This is a much more effective way to achieve our goals, because our perfect customers want, what we want to deliver. In that space, “push” and “pull” are equal, effectiveness increases and the sales cycle decreases.

    She worked for 18 years in the oil and energy sector in different US, UK and Canadian Engineering software firms. She specialized in Upstream Engineering Software and introduced this technology in different private oil companies and N.O.C.s around the world. Her role involved not only opening markets for this technology but also training engineers. As a consultant, she participated in implementing oil production optimization projects.

    During the 6 years she lived in Houston, she was very active in the SPE Gulf Coast, especially in the Facilities Engineering Study Group, which she led at some point.

    Dr. Xiang Zhai

    Dr. Zhai has a broad range of experience in applied mathematics and physics, including machine learning, data mining, deep learning, artificial intelligence, theoretical and numerical PDEs and ODEs, numerical simulation, and optimization. He has used these tools to quantitatively model and interpret complex petroleum engineering problems and other large-scale dynamic systems. A PhD graduate from Caltech, Dr. Zhai was quickly promoted at QRI to the leader of New Technologies group, a multi-disciplinary R&D group exploring many cutting-edge technologies for the oil and gas industry. Dr. Zhai led the development effort of several major QRI technologies, including SpeedWise® Waterflood Management, a robust waterflood optimization software that combines critical physics with data-driven models. Dr. Zhai also developed SpeedWise Unconventionals®, a technology that uses public and private data to identify opportunities in the unconventional fields, including well spacing optimization, target identification, well performance prediction, and drilling and completion design optimization.  Dr. Zhai is also in charge of QRI's Automated Machine Learning toolbox development, a tool that aims to conduct intelligent, robust and enterprise-level machine learning and data analytics in a fully automated fashion. Dr. Zhai and his team’s technologies have been applied across the world, including the Middle East, East Asian, Mid Asian, North America, and Latin America.

    Dr. Feyisayo Olalotiti

    Dr. Olalotiti has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry as an engineer, an educator, and in research. A PhD graduate from Texas A&M University, Dr. Olalotiti helped design and develop the SpeedWise® Waterflood Management (SWM®) suite for QRI. Previously with PetraNova, he worked on the world’s largest anthropogenic CO2 EOR and storage project. While pursuing his graduate degrees at Texas A&M University, he worked as a teaching assistant for numerous engineering courses. During this time, he was also a Research Assistant on the Model Calibration and Efficient Reservoir Imaging (MCERI) project.  He also held internships with Chevron, where he worked on the RESQML–INTERSECT simulation workflow development, and with Schlumberger, where he developed an efficient unconventional reservoir evaluation engine. Dr. Olalotiti has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Chevron Fellowship award, the Graduate Fellowship award from the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, and the ExxonMobil Undergraduate Scholarship award.

    Dr. Nagel has over 30 years of industry experience having worked for ConocoPhillips for 20 years and as a consultant since then. He is a well-known expert in petroleum geomechanics and, specifically, the geomechanics of Unconventionals. Nagel has given many invited SPE, AAPG, HGS, SEG, and SPWLA presentations and training courses and has authored or coauthored more than 50 technical papers, with 20+ related to Unconventionals, including a keynote presentation at the 2014 SPE HFTC. He is currently the chairman of the SPE Geomechanics Technical Section, a recent petroleum geomechanics track lead for the annual ARMA conference, is a past SPE Distinguished Lecturer (2004 and 2016), was chief editor of the 2010 SPE Monograph on Solids Injection, and has served on the SPE Drilling and Completions Committee and been a local SPE section officer.

  • Shale Development - Does Cheap Energy Really Mean Flaming Tap Water?

    Shale development in the US has been ongoing for at least the last decade, and many lessons can be learned from the US experience to help prevent air emissions and aquifer contamination in future developments around the world.  Media reports and films such as "Gasland" imply that shale development is widely polluting fresh water aquifers and the atmosphere, with a wide range of estimates of contamination. This lecture examines the risk of contamination of aquifers through wellbores, either by hydrocarbon migration or hydraulic fracturing operations, and is primarily based on a comprehensive three-year study funded by the US National Science Foundation examining nearly 18,000 wells drilled in the Wattenberg Field in Colorado, plus other relevant studies.  In the midst of the Wattenberg field is heavy urban and agricultural development, with over 30,000 water wells interspersed with the oil and gas wells, resulting in a natural laboratory to measure aquifer contamination. Lessons learned have universal applications with clear relationships established between well construction methods in both conventional and unconventional wells and contamination risks.

    Dr. William Fleckenstein

    Adjunct Faculty Member, Colorado School of Mines

    Dr. Fleckenstein is an adjunct faculty member at the Colorado School of Mines, where he served as Interim Petroleum Engineering Department Head 2012-2014, and he also serves as the managing partner in Fleckenstein, Eustes & Associates, consulting on projects worldwide. He holds BSc, ME, and PhD degrees in petroleum engineering and has 30 years experience primarily in drilling, completions and workovers, with direct experience on over 200 wells and involvement in horizontal wells and stimulations since 1990. Dr. Fleckenstein has numerous publications and patented technologies in multi-stage fracturing, annular seal testing, and downhole hydraulic rotation.

  • Separation internals: Field Installation and Inspection To Enable The Potential For Good Performance

    This presentation has the goal to describe how a proper factory inspection and field installation of the separation internals needs to be carried out. The installation and inspection must address the key issues that might occur to avoid poor separator performance.

    The process design of a separator many times requires solutions with a number of complex separation internals, which combined will provide the desired process performance. Even with the best designs, if the separation internals are not fabricated according to the defined requirements, do not fit in the vessel correctly, or even worse, are not properly installed, all the process design efforts are worthless. Field installation and inspection verification of internals is a critical step. This presentation has the goal to describe how a proper factory inspection and field installation of the separation internals needs to be carried out. He has a Masters of Sciences degree in Aeronautical Engineering by the Brazilian Air Force Institute of Technology (ITA).

He progressed to managing research & development projects in automotive powertrains, fuel and lubricants testing, subsea robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles at PETRONAS Research before joining the Upstream Business.
