    Silviu is a chief scientist at Baker Hughes where he focuses on research and development, innovation, commercialization, and intellectual property related to the petroleum industry. He has authored more than 30 US patents (granted and pending) and more than 60 papers and articles. Silviu is the 2021-2023 Data Science and Engineering Analytics Technical Director on the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International Board, an SPE distinguished member and a former SPE Distinguished Lecturer. He has served on various SPE awards, advisory, and technical conference and workshop committees. Silviu has been involved in the peer review of more than 6,000 technical articles as an executive editor for the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering (Elsevier); an associate editor for the SPE Journal; and a technical reviewer for 17 journals and national science organizations.

Before this, he founded his own technology and media company, following work at JP Morgan and Schroders Investment Management.

    Ilya is the Lead Digital Product Manager for Assets, Projects, Subsurface and Wells in Digital Center of Excellence. Ilya’s primary responsibility is to help all Royal Dutch Shell assets and projects with their Digitalization Journey. Digital CoE provides digital solutions to problems worth solving like reaching Goal Zero (to harm, no leaks), delivering faster and better hydrocarbon resource maturation, improving availability (eliminating trips of critical equipment, optimizing preventive maintenance), maximizing value and reducing consumable through real-time optimization; and improving productivity (process automation).

    Ilya joined Shell in 1998 and has worked predominantly in the Upstream business. He holds a PhD in Geo-Engineering, and is the author of more than 100 patents.
