Melanie Brooke-Lander, Baker Hughes - Moderator
Melanie is Director of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Programs and Corporate Social Responsibility for the oilfield service company Baker Hughes. It was a newly created role when she stepped into it in 2009 and she has worked to establish and communicate Baker Hughes CSR strategy and practices and gain top-tier positions in investor rankings.

Melanie has worked in the oilfield chemicals industry her whole career. She served for 5 years as the Chairman of the trade association, EOSCA (the European Oilfield Specialty Chemicals Association). In this role, Melanie collaborated with governmental agencies and other industry groups to shape the environmental legislation to protect the NE Atlantic Ocean from the impacts of oil and gas drilling operations. She is British and relocated from Aberdeen, Scotland to Houston in 2006. Melanie has an MSc in Applied Toxicology from the University of Surrey, U.K.

David Hollas, Halliburton
Throughout his career, David Hollas has maintained a strong interest in corporate social responsibility and environmental issues. He currently represents Halliburton, where he holds the position of Global Director of Sustainability and Environmental Performance.

Before joining Halliburton in 2012, David held various environmental roles in other oilfield service companies, including National Oilwell Varco, Schlumberger, and Smith International.

David's educational background is rooted in aquatic ecology, and he holds a master's degree in Environmental Science. He has published and presented numerous technical papers, including recent work on corporate environmental risk management. His work in the industry has been focused on environmental citizenship, impact reduction, and operational performance enhancement.

In his role at Halliburton, he directs the company corporate citizenship and sustainability strategies and reporting. These issues are especially focused on hydraulic fracturing and manufacturing activities. In his free time, David helps coordinate volunteer tree planting events and is very active with various local conservation organizations, including The Nature Conservancy, Katy Prairie Conservancy, and the Houston Parks Board. David is a member of the National Association of Environmental Professionals and works frequently with the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Carmen Santamaria, Repsol
Carmen joined Repsol, the main multinational Spanish O&G company, in 1987 and was recruited into Repsol’s Chemical Division. 

She graduated in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Complutense and Environmental Engineering from EOI (Escuela de Organización Industrial) both in Madrid, Spain. Over the course of 23 years, her career has included assignments in Research and Development and the Engineering and Safety and Environment Division.

In September 2011 she joined the Exploration and Production Business and is currently the environment and social management Manager. During the last 10 years she has been involved in environmental projects and studies worldwide.
