Autonomy Comes From The Street To The Field

Recorded On: 09/26/2017

While you hear about reports and news articles on self-driving cars, trucks and even ships, Autonomy has been accepted use in the deep-water Oil and Gas industry since 2001 in Unmanned AUVs. Their primary use has been in deep-water geophysical surveys and site classifications in support of subsea installations and pipelines. Today, with advances in sensors and autonomy, they are now ready to move into the infield inspection realm and the needs to support IRM and regulatory requirements. This will bring along many of the cost savings that have been associated with their use on the survey side. Oceaneering has just completed a 2 year development and upgrades of its fleet of AUV’s to bring Visual, Laser and Cathodic Protection inspections into the market based on work done on its bespoke Autonomy controller and qualification of the technology during this development project.
