  • Session I - What Have we Learned in the First 15 Years of Digital Oilfield?

    Contains 2 Component(s), 0.15 credits offered Recorded On: 09/14/2017

This presentation offers generic insights and lessons learned into the skilled practice of the application of DOF drawn from experiences in several major oil and gas companies and explore a number of topics.

Digital Oilfield (DOF) and Integrated Operations has been a major performance improvement initiative within many oil and gas companies for much of the last 15 years. It is therefore surprising to find that, although many companies have been successful, many continue to find it difficult to implement the change in the new way of working enabled by DOF.

This presentation offers generic insights and lessons learned into the skilled practice of the application of DOF drawn from experiences in several major oil and gas companies and explore a number of topics such as:  history and evolution of DOF; DOF/IO and Collaboration Environment naming conventions and others.  It will also cover key success factors and draw attention to some of the numerous pitfalls to be encountered along the way and end by highlighting some of the new challenges and opportunities in DOF.

    Tony Edwards

    CEO, Stepchange Global Limited

Dr. Edwards has extensive experience in the oil and gas exploration and production industry worldwide. He holds a BA degree from Keele University in Geology and Chemistry, and a Doctorate in Petrology from the University of Manchester. He had a 17 year career with BP that spanned from R&D through to front line operations and project management.

Tony was a founder member of BP’s Integrated Operations Program, Field of the Future, and was subsequently the global director for the Advanced Collaborative Environment Program. In 2006 he moved to BG-Group to launch its digital oilfield program and three years later, in January 2009 he founded Stepchange Global, a dedicated digital oilfield advisory company.  He has served as advisor to Statoil, BP, PETRONAS, ConocoPhillips, Total, Santos, Origin Energy, BHP Billiton, GAZPROM and ExxonMobil on their Integrated Operations strategies. Over the last four years Tony has combined his operational experience in running unmanned platforms with Digital Oilfield to advise on radically minimum manned operational and project concepts that are lower in CAPEX and OPEX while delivering improved safety and reliability.
