Digital Transformation for Traditional Sector – Did We Get It All Wrong?
Includes a Live Event on 01/27/2021 at 9:30 AM (EST)
Nearly every industry is taken by the excitement of digital transformation (DX). Most professional conferences and magazines are allocating sections on digital. The level of adoption and successful outcome ranges from digital native companies in one end of the spectrum, B2C and banking sector being immediately following, through Oil & Gas, Chemicals, and industrial construction just waking up to the efficiency gain, cost reduction, and improved safety possible through DX. Companies like Uber and Airbnb that are digitally born could start from a clean slate. While companies in the traditional industries need to proactively transform their business processes leveraging digital technologies. While this is all very exciting, for the newcomers and even veterans, the difference between digitizing, digitalizing, executing a digital rich product portfolio, vs digital transformation can get rapidly confusing. The result is not only benign incorrect usage of the terminology but the misaligned outcome expectations. Even a few years ago, many traditional companies equated digital transformation to creating 'a website and an app’, and some still continue to fall into that trap.
In this talk, we will investigate some of the fundamental questions of:
- Why should a company engage in DX at all?
- What is and is not DX? How does it relate to what Oil & Gas industry experimented with for decades under the tagline of iField, SmartField, or Digital Oilfield of the Future?
- How have some other traditional sectors successfully embarked on this journey and are beginning to reap value?
- How has COVID impacted DX adoption? What are the key challenges of implementing DX? Where to start? How to avoid the pitfalls?
