Among the key aspects and strategies of Integrated Asset Development & Management (IADM) on enhancing the values in hydrocarbon assets throughout the field life, is to thoroughly understand the field’s potentials with the right benchmarks and exampled analogues. Part 4 of this series will elaborate on the application of data analytics and associated solutions, with a focus on data-driven reservoir performance benchmarking on identifying areas of reservoir performance gaps, and formulation of Recovery Factor (RF) improvement plans through effective yet simple to use methodologies and Field Development Plans (FDP) analogues.

Dr. Rahim Masoudi

Dr Rahim graduated from Heriot-Watt University/UK with more than 22 years industrial and research experiences in Middle East, North Sea and Malaysia/SE Asia. He is currently the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Group Technical Authority (GTA) & Custodian- Petroleum/Reservoir Engineering in Field Development and Asset Management & Operation in PETRONAS. 

He is also Distinguished Industry Advisor and Adjunct Professor at University Technology PETRONAS. He is recognized/served as SPE International Distinguished Lecturer in 2011-2012 seasons, received the 2017 SPE Technical Service Award and 2012 SPE Northern Asia Pacific Regional Technical Award on Reservoir Description and Dynamics, received SPE-Kuala Lumpur “Outstanding Technical Award” for 2015-2017 season, recognized & appointed as a member of SPE Regional Technical Advisory Committee in Asia Pacific. 

In October 2013, awarded the 2017 and 2012 Exemplary Line Trainer of the Year by PETRONAS PE Skill Group 10, published one book and more than 140 international journal, conference papers and 3 patents. Supervised more than 30 MSc and PhD students in Petroleum/Reservoir Engineering in various areas and carried out more than 50 reservoir studies and FDP Formulation.  

His areas of interest are E&P Business Development, Field Development, Asset Management, High CO2 Field Monetization, Reservoir Engineering, Production Optimization, Reservoir Description & Dynamics, Hydrocarbon Recovery Improvement, Uncertainty& Risk Management, E&P Data Analytics. 

Rakesh Ranjan

Principal Reservoir Engineer in PETRONAS

Rakesh Ranjan is a Principal Reservoir Engineer in PETRONAS. He graduated in Petroleum Engineering from Indian School of Mines and has more than 21 years of industry experience as Reservoir Engineer. He has worked with various leading E&P companies with diverse roles in the last 9 years with PETRONAS. In PETRONAS, he is the Reservoir Engineering discipline lead in MPM and member of different PETRONAS Technical Review Committee, providing technical assurance to Field Development activities and Asset Management by different operators in Malaysia. He has published several technical papers in various international journals and conferences on reservoir dynamic and characterisation.  His areas of interest are Reservoir Simulation, Field Development Planning, EOR, Well Testing and Production Data Analysis. 

Shlok Jalan (Moderator)

Staff Reservoir Engineer, Resource Development & Management, MPM, Upstream Business, PETRONAS

Shlok Jalan joined PETRONAS in 2011 and is currently working as a Reservoir Engineering TP for Sabah in Resource Development and Management (RDM), Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM). Prior to joining PETRONAS, he has worked for Shell and Cairn India Limited. His areas of expertise include reservoir simulation, OER modeling, and field development planning. He has also been extensively involved in reservoir surveillance and monitoring activities in his career. He has over 18 years of industry experience as a Reservoir Engineer working on various integrated development projects. Shlok graduated in Petroleum Engineering from the Indian School of Mines Dhanbad, India in 2022, and Masters in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University in 2016.
