Financial Management of R&D: Best in Class Metrics

Includes a Live Event on 01/20/2021 at 10:00 AM (EST)

Investment in R&D is essential for technological advancement adding value to the organization in terms of revenue generation, costs reduction and/or efficiency improvements. Sustainability of the oil and gas business and its future growth is dependent on how fast and effective technology development is. During this process, there are risks that varies from one stage to another. First, there are technical risks associated with the R&D phase that vary from one project to another brining uncertainty to the creation of the final technology product. Moreover, after the technology is produced, there is still risk in the market penetration process and the competitiveness of the technology, hence, another risk factor is introduced. Research has shown that implementation of the right financial tools is a key attribute for a successful research and development (R&D) cycle. Therefore, it is of interest for managers, scientists and engineers to be equipped with the right financial tools that ensure the budget and all related resources are diverted to the right projects. In this presentation, we share a review of available methods that can be used to decide on future R&D projects, evaluate existing projects and quantify the impact of completed projects through the implementation of their technological outcomes and/or commercialization.
