Enabling Successful Capital Project Delivery for a Successful Energy Transition

Significant transformation is underway in the way the world produces, transports and consumes energy. Precisely how the transformation plays out is hard to predict. What is known however is that capital projects in the form of new infrastructure, and assets, are going to be the key component of this transformation. The world is going to need significant investment in capital projects to enable this transformation. And, the capital projects pipeline we face will be complex. Complexity in these projects will not only be technical complexity, but also organizational/stakeholder and shaping complexity. Unfortunately, history, and present, tell us that the industrial record of delivering capital projects is dismal. The missing ingredient is lack of project leaders!

Are you a good project leader? Does your organization know how to identify and develop future project leaders? Does your organization know the difference between project leader and project manager? Based on three years of research done by Mr. Edward Merrow and Mr. Neeraj Nandurdikar, published in their book Leading Complex ProjectsA Data Driven Approach to Mastering the Human Side of Project Management, most organizations don’t appreciate this difference, don’t consider leadership attributes in selection of complex project leaders and therefore don’t have well developed programs for project leaders.

In this webinar, supported by the SPE’s Management Technical Section, Mr. Neeraj Nandurdikar discusses the attributes, skillsets, developmental journey, and personality traits of successful leaders based on studying 100s of project leaders from various sectors across the globe. The talk also touches on the causal path from the individual traits to specific tasks and outcomes. By illuminating the difference between project manager and project leader the talk ends by discussing what organizations need to do to develop a cadre of project leaders that can help drive a successful transformation of the sector through effective capital project delivery.

This webinar is categorized under the Management and Leadership technical discipline.
