Paul Hopmans

Paul Hopmans was with Shell for 37 years in Well Engineering with his last position being the Global Principal Technical Expert for Well Integrity. Following this, Paul spent 4 years with Technology Research (TNO) in The Netherlands focusing on solutions for; wells for CO2 storage, Geothermal wells and well abandonment. Paul studied Naval Engineering and his early career was in the shipping and chemical industries. He has worked in Australia, Netherlands, Oman, Syria, Tunisia, UK and several S.E Asian countries. 2017 saw the publication of the first ISO Standard “Well integrity – Life cycle governance” the development of which was a multi-year effort led by Paul as the Chairperson of the working group.

This interview will be a discussion with Paul about his experience in the realm of Well Integrity, the changes he has seen in this area and how the focus has changed in the industry. He will also share his thoughts and observations on the continuing concerns, as well as the opportunities, that lay ahead for the Oil and Gas Industry.
