Dr. Paul Jackson

Managing Director, Clockwork Research Limited

Dr. Jackson trained as a psychologist, obtaining his PhD from Imperial College, London. For the last 15 years his work has focused on the impairment resulting from fatigue and in 2005 – together with Dr. Alexandra Holmes - he set up Clockwork Research, the London-based consultancy that works with safety-critical organisations to manage the risks associated with fatigue.

Paul and his team have designed training programmes for a range of clients, including easyJet, Virgin Atlantic, Shell and BP. Paul has worked as an expert witness and has developed guidance for police investigators on how to identify and investigate fatigue-related crashes. He also co-authored a critical review of fatigue and road safety for the Department for Transport (UK).

Since 2003 Paul has worked with BP, conducting Fatigue Risk Assessments at sites in Angola, Egypt, Libya, The Shetland Islands and Oman He has also undertaken similar site assessments at mining and gas operations in Australia, Ghana, Indonesia, New Zealand, Peru, Qatar and the USA.

Previously, Paul was a Research Manager at the Department for Transport (DfT) where he was responsible for impairment research, looking at the effects of illicit drugs, medications, alcohol and fatigue on driving.

Paul obtained his PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Imperial College, London where he studied the distraction effects of in-vehicle route guidance systems.
