Welding simulation can be complex and time consuming, as it requires accurate representation of geometric features, multiple weld passes, non-linear temperature dependent material properties, thermal and structural boundary conditions. Traditionally, significant user effort and expertise is required to capture and model all of these details.
During this webinar, we will demonstrate an efficient approach to model and simulate of all aspects of 2D and 3D welding models in SIMULIA Abaqus, including weld beads, weld passes, film loads, and radiation loads. This unique interface guides user inputs to significantly accelerate and improve weld design analysis by automating most of the time consuming tasks associated with building a welding finite element model.
In addition, we will provide an overview of robust computational methods in Abaqus for thermo-structural simulation, accurate modeling of weld microstructure and grain size distribution and assessing associated residual stresses and distortion.
This combination of efficient modeling and robust simulation capabilities enables designers and engineers to collaborate on using consistent methods to create higher quality analysis models and ensure traceability of results and performance-related decisions.

Sandeep Kumar is a senior solution consultant with the SIMULIA brand of Dassault Systèmes In his role, Sandeep helps clients in the Oil & Gas industry to explore, discover and build simulation-based solutions to complex engineering problems. His areas of expertise include subsurface geomechanics, structural analysis, and the mechanics of metals & materials.
Prior to joining Dassault Systèmes, Sandeep was a senior subsurface engineer at ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company. He holds a masters and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from MIT.
